Sendai Airport damaged by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami resumed regular domestic flights and international charter flights operations on July 25.
A charter flight of Asiana Airlines full with 140 passengers from Seoul landed at the Sendai Airport at 12:37. Led by the Miyagi’s PR character “Musubi-maru”, landladies of Ryokan (Japanese-style inns) in Miyagi and Yamagata, tourism trade professionals as well as staff from administrative bodies welcomed them with smile, saying “annyeonghaseyo”. They handed them packages of locally made premium cakes, mobile phone straps, drinking water and tourism brochures.
After arrival, the tourists split up and set off in several tour coaches and were headed for different destinations – Zao-onsen (hot spring) in Yamagata, Shin-Shirakawa Golf Club in Fukushima, and Furukawa Country Club in Miyagi by bus. During the tour, the person in charge of the tour operator commented “there was no aftershocks so far and I am convinced that Tohoku is alright. We continuously send our customers to Tohoku!” We are grateful for their strong support.
