Go on a Time Travel to the Town Called as a Town of Fireflies (Yokote City, Akita Prefecture)

One of the snowiest places in Japan, Yokote city, Akita prefecture. “The rows of houses of Masuda” were selected as an important preservation district for groups of traditional buildings last year.

Uchigura, a warehouse covered in another building called Saya in order to avoid damages from wind and snow, is a typical building in snowy regions and represents modesty of Masuda’s merchants.

There will be a cultural performance that introduces the regional lifestyle in Masuda based on a theme set on those particular rows of houses at the 29th “National Cultural Festival Akita 2014”, which starts on October 4 and ends on November 3. Another upcoming event is the Masuda “Warehouse Day” on October 5, Sunday. This is the 9th time that the event will be held. Several traditional buildings that have been rarely exhibited are going to be displayed on the day.

This is a great opportunity to visit and experience the real “rows of houses of Masuda” with unchanged regional lifestyle culture, which have always been protected and passed on since the good old times.
