Shirakawa Daruma – ‘Crane and Tortoise’, and ‘Pine, Bamboo, and Plum’ invite Luck (Feb. 11, 2014)

Matsudaira Sadanobu, who had accomplished one of three greatest revolutionary reforms in the society in the Edo period, injected an idea of producing Shirakawa ‘daruma’ dolls to boost his domains economy. A daruma doll is a piece of folk art, shaped like Dharma and Shirakawa daruma is decorated with crane, tortoise, pine, bamboo, and plum, all supposedly bring good fortune. A daruma fair will be held on February 11. You should get one for your family!
