Futatsugame swimming beach is at the northern end of Sadogashima in Niigata Prefecture.
Its name, Futatsugame (two turtles) comes from two large offshore rocks that look like turtles.
Seawater is so clear and it’s selected as one of the best 100 swimming beaches in Japan because of its transparency.
Many visitors including non-locals come to enjoy swimming every year, but it isn’t so crowded even at the high season in August, thanks to the location on the northern end of Sado. People can spend time leisurely while admiring beautiful scenery.
Hotels and campground are available for those who stay overnight, which are ideal to enjoy a starry night after having a nice swim.
Access: Approximately 60-minute drive from Ryotuminato.
Approximately 20 minutes on foot from the nearest bus stop, Futatsugame (on the Uchikaifu Line)
