Last Saturday and Sunday, fascinating folk performances, local products and specialties of Tohoku as well as tourism information were offered under one roof of “Highway Communication in Tohoku 2011” in Kotodai Koen park located in central Sendai.
Six prefectures in Tohoku and its neighboring prefecture Niigata sent their delegates to the event organized by Tohoku branch of NEXCO (East Nippon Expressway Company Limited), who expected visitors to reassure value of local cultures.
One more theme added to the event this year – hope and pray together for recovery from the devastating Great East Japan Earthquake and boost driving force for reconstruction activities. It probably worked. Backed by fine weather, the 2-day event saw a great success.
Many visitors enjoyed traditional performances including powerful “Namahage” drums from Akita, Hawaiian dance from Fukushima, and “Sansa” dance from Iwate. Food lovers were also treated with variety of local dishes such as Oga Yakisoba (pan-fried noodles), Shirakawa Ramen, and Yonezawa skewered beef.
